It’s amazing how paths can cross again.

One of my earliest jobs 25+ years ago was working as a busboy/waiter at Boston Pizza for owner, Samira Shariff.

Although I had absolutely no idea at the time, working for Samira taught me some of my most core business values/principles and I’ve carried these values and principles with me my entire career from busboy to software exec. to barber and everything in between. Thank you for the learning Samira.

Fast forward 25 years later, through pure happenstance, I’ve reconnected with Samira’s son, Naheed, who is a successful, forward-thinking and creative Edmonton businessperson.

It was a cold, gloomy and rainy day in May of 2020, when Naheed and his wife Farha knocked on our covid-closed door at Soho in search of some hair products.

Since that day, Naheed has been an unwavering supporter of my barbering journey and I always look forward to our regular chats in the barber chair. Thank you for your inspiration Naheed.

If you’ve ever eaten in Edmonton at Boston Pizza or Browns Socialhouse and soon, California Pizza Kitchen, you’ll surely find his story to be a great read!

The Barber experience

What to Expect

During your time with Greg, you’ll enjoy a simple menu of offerings and the finer side of barbering which include the comfort of a gloriously old school barber chair (complimentary in-arm ashtray provided), a laid-back but vigorous hair wash and condition, the pleasure of a traditional cutting cape, classic barbering tools and if you’re up for it, engaging conversation.

Barber Greg’s story

Becoming a barber was a huge leap and not without fear but life on his full-time path at Soho as a barber has been quickly gaining exciting momentum and opportunities.

Soho is a special place, maybe even a hidden gem, that has been providing precision hair cutting and hair coloring service for over 10 years.

Founded by Barber Greg’s wife, Carole Lemire, Greg has spent the last decade working behind the scenes managing the books, sweeping up on the weekends, and managing the boring stuff.

After a fulfilling 15 years working in the boardroom, Greg felt himself yearning to hang up the suit jacket and the Zoom meeting life to embrace his creative side.

Becoming a barber was a huge leap and not without fear but life on his new full-time path at Soho as a barber has been quickly gaining exciting momentum and opportunities.

When contemplating the barber life, Greg’s wife Carole, a 20+ year accomplished Master Stylist and Educator in her own right, was ultra-supportive and based on her own experiences training in London, encouraged Greg to go to England to learn the trade of barbering.

Once the decision was made, it didn’t take long for Greg to register at the prestigious London School of Barbering in central London.
In September of 2019, Greg left for London, England to live for 4 months to attend barber school.

Staying in a small flat in the London borough of Islington, not far from St. Paul’s Cathedral, Greg had a short 15-minute walk to school daily and lived steps away from amazing restaurants, an outdoor football pitch, and plenty of great pubs!
