Carole’s Hair Painting Class In NYC
Earlier in this month I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to train with one of the most influential stylists in the hair industry. Victoria Hunter is the co-owner of the Whittemorehosue Salon in NYC, former creative director of the global product brand Bumble and Bumble and most recently the go-to stylist for Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior and so many more. If you’ve picked up a Vogue magazine in the last year there is a high likelihood you’ve seen Victoria’s hair designs on some of fashions top models.

Victoria and her partner, Larry Raspanti have developed a colour technique called Hair Painting and it has literally swept the hair industry by storm. When the opportunity arose to take a personal class with Victoria and Larry at their salon in NYC, I had to jump at it.
I was so excited to take their Hair Painting class in New York because it truly is the hottest color trend we have seen in 20 years. Celebrities, top models and fashion lovers everywhere have embraced this technique.
There are two types of techniques; balayage and Hair Painting and the results are more natural looking highlights or the look can be bolder, ombre and sombre are very popular terms used to describe these techniques.
First there was Balayage in the 1970’s, it is a French word for “to sweep”. It refers to the sweeping motion the brush makes when painting lightener on the hair. The Balayage produces a more natural looking variation for the highlights then foils, it’s more versatile.
Hair Painting is the modern way of coloring hair. It takes the classic techniques and infusing them with the modern technique and it can be subtle, proper, hip, beachy, cool and more modern.
Ombre is also a French term, which means the graduation of color from dark to light.
Sombre is the same term except the color is much more blended and softer and a few balayage foils are added around the face.
The entire styling team at Soho has been trained on the Hair Painting process and all of the girls are excited to show you what these techniques can do for you. We guarantee you will love your new look!
