Sassoon Salon Educator Training – A Dream come true!
As a professional stylist, I have always loved helping and teaching others. I come from a family of teachers and teaching is one of my biggest passions in life. When I found out that I was one of eight lucky people in the world this year to be accepted into the Sassoon Salon Educator program in Santa Monica, it was quite literally a dream come true.
Ever since I opened the door at Soho for the first time four years ago, I’ve worked hard to ensure that the salon, the styling team and our clients receive the most up to date education and information as possible. Just like the fashion industry, the hair industry never stays still for more than a season and I firmly believe that in order to be successful and more importantly relevant, education needs to be a priority in the salon on a daily basis. After successfully finishing the Salon Educator certificate program, I’ve never been more confident that our salon and the styling team are on track to absolutley become the best salon in Edmonton.
During the course, I had the great pleasure of learning from one of the most talented educators in the business. Tina Haukjaer-Andersen has forever changed me as a stylist and as a teacher. I first saw Tina in action 9 years in Chicago while watching her on stage cutting and teaching at a Sassoon event and I was instantly mesmerized. She is smart, talented, creative, dedicate, confidant and loves to share her knowledge. I will always be grateful for her and hope to pass on to others as she has with me.
The course was filled with lectures, demonstrations, tons of notes, hands on sessions and homework. We had to explain, demo, lecture and demonstrate in front of Tina and the class. It was incedibly difficult and very challenging and at times soul searching, however, it was of those events in life that changes who you are for the better. I was a kid who hated school but when it comes to hair I will forever be a student.
Arriving back to the salon, I’m invigortaed and excited to be planning the next 6 months of training for the entire team at Soho. Look out Edmonton! We’re about to crank it up four or five notches!
